Experience one of the most iconic hikes in Rio de Janeiro and reach the highest point in the city. Standing at 1,021 meters (3,353 feet) above sea level, Pico da Tijuca offers breathtaking panoramic views and an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Tijuca Forest.
The tour begins inside Tijuca National Park, one of the largest urban forests in the world and one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures. Recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, the park protects a vast area of Atlantic Rainforest rich in biodiversity, waterfalls, rivers, caves, lakes, and mountains.
Before starting the hike, we visit the beautiful Taunay Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Tijuca National Park and one of the park’s most famous landmarks.
The trail begins in the peaceful Bom Retiro area, surrounded by lush rainforest vegetation. The ascent to the summit takes approximately one hour and is considered moderately challenging, making it an excellent option for visitors seeking a combination of nature, adventure, and spectacular scenery.
At the summit, hikers are rewarded with incredible views of Rio de Janeiro. From this privileged vantage point, it is possible to admire the vast Tijuca Forest, Maracanã Stadium, Guanabara Bay, the Serra dos Orgaos mountains, and many of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
