Located in the heart of the Serra do Mar mountain range, approximately 2.5 hours from Rio de Janeiro, the park protects one of the most significant remnants of the Atlantic Forest. Crystal-clear rivers, waterfalls, natural springs, lush valleys, dramatic rock formations, and extraordinary biodiversity make this destination one of the most stunning natural landscapes in Brazil.
The hike takes place in the Bonsucesso region, between the mountain towns of Teresópolis and Nova Friburgo, home to the iconic Bonsucesso Towers. These massive granite walls stretch for more than 500 meters (1,640 feet), creating a breathtaking landscape often compared to the rugged beauty of Patagonia.
This challenging trail gains approximately 950 meters (3,117 feet) in elevation as it ascends to the main summit at nearly 2,000 meters (6,562 feet) above sea level. Along the way, hikers pass through preserved Atlantic Forest, high-altitude grasslands, and scenic viewpoints offering increasingly spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
