SugarLoaf Hike is an exciting way to reach the summit and enjoy the views while combining hiking and rock climbing!

Experience one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic landmarks in a unique and adventurous way. The Sugarloaf and Urca Hills Natural Monument combines breathtaking scenery, outdoor adventure, and nature in the heart of the city.
The journey begins along the famous Costão Trail, a scenic route through lush Atlantic Forest vegetation with spectacular views of Guanabara Bay. To reach the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain (396 m / 1,299 ft), participants complete a short 15-meter (49 ft) rock climb, considered moderate and suitable for beginners. No previous climbing experience is required, and all safety equipment is provided by your guide.
Reaching the summit is rewarded with one of the most stunning panoramic views in Rio de Janeiro. From the top, you can admire Copacabana Beach, Guanabara Bay, the charming Urca neighborhood, Christ the Redeemer, downtown Rio, Niteroi, and many other famous landmarks that make the city one of the most beautiful destinations in the world.
After enjoying the scenery and capturing unforgettable photos, descend aboard the historic Sugarloaf Cable Car, gliding down to Urca Hill (first section included). From there, a short and pleasant trail leads back to the beach, completing the experience in a relaxed and scenic way.

• Tour duration: 4hs (approx)
• Hike level: advanced (level 4 of 5)
• Rock climbing section: 3º BR / 5.5 US / 3+ FR
• Trail length: 4km / 2,5miles (total)
• Elevation gain: 400m / 1312ft
• Trail duration: 2:30 hours climb / 1h descent (cable car + trail)
• Recommendations: wear light clothes and hiking shoes, bring a small backpack with water (1.5L, per person), snacks, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, cap or hat, sunglasses and cash for extras.

• General Information:

• If the chosen date or the number of participants is not available, contact us to schedule the tour with your group.
• Important: during the hike, there is a short rock climb section, totally safe and indicated for beginners (no previous climbing experience required).
•  Meeting point: Urca neighborhood (close to SugarLoaf Cable Car Station).
• After 5pm, the descent from Morro da Urca to the beach is done by cable car (not included), due to the closing time of the trail.
